What Russian volume is and why we call them fans
Russian volume means attaching several ultra-fine extensions, joined at the base, to a single natural lash. That little group opens out like a fan, which is why at the salon we simply call them «fans».
Each fan is made by hand on the spot, with tweezers, from fibres 0.05 to 0.07 mm thick. For comparison, a classic one-to-one extension is usually 0.15 mm. Three 0.05 mm fibres together weigh less than a single 0.15 mm one, so you get fullness without overloading the lash.
The name comes from the technique becoming popular in Russia and Eastern Europe. At Migami it is done by Denia Lemus, who runs the salon, and by her team, all trained by her in the same method.
2D, 3D, 5D and hybrid: the differences
The «D» tells you how many extensions make up each fan. The more fibres, the darker and fuller the lash line looks, and the finer they need to be to keep the weight down.

Your appointment, step by step
- Choose your fullnessWe look at your lashes and eye shape and decide with you between hybrid, 2D, 3D or 5D, and the curl.
- PreparationWe cleanse your lashes, protect the lower ones and you lie back with your eyes closed. It does not hurt.
- Fan by fanWe isolate each natural lash and attach its handmade fan. This is the longest part of the appointment.
- Final checkWe brush through, check no lashes are stuck together and talk you through aftercare at home.
Who Russian volume is for
Russian volume works best if you have sparse, gappy or fine lashes. A fan fills the space a classic extension leaves empty.
- Sparse or gappy lashes: 2D or 3D evens out the line.
- You want to give up mascara and eyeliner: 3D defines the eye on its own.
- You like a bold everyday look: 5D gives maximum fullness.
- You want something in between: hybrid blends natural texture with a little volume.
If you would rather it barely shows, classic eyelash extensions are usually a better starting point. And if you are after spiky, character-style tips, anime lashes use a technique of their own.
Weight and retention: why your natural lashes stay healthy
A well-made volume set is light because the load is spread across very fine fibres. What damages lashes is too much weight or two natural lashes stuck together, and we avoid that by isolating each one before placing the fan.
Retention is how long the extension stays on. It depends on the adhesive, the humidity, your skin and your aftercare at home. Applied properly, the set holds well for 3 to 4 weeks; after that you are seeing your natural cycle, as each lash falls out and renews every 4 to 8 weeks.

How to look after volume lashes so they last longer
The first 24 hours matter most: keep your lashes away from water, steam and saunas while the adhesive finishes curing.
- Wash your lashes every day with an oil-free cleanser; fans collect residue and that shortens retention.
- Brush them in the morning with a clean spoolie.
- Do not use mascara or bi-phase make-up remover on the extensions.
- Sleep on your back or on your side without pressing your face into the pillow.
- Do not pull at loose fans: wait for your infill.
When you want them off, have it done at the salon: lash removal costs €19.90 and is done without pulling on your natural lashes.
