Eyebrow threading vs waxing: why thread and tweezers protect your shape

By Denia Lemus · Updated on · 6 min read

When you compare eyebrow threading vs waxing, threading wins on precision and gentleness. There are four common methods: threading, tweezing, waxing and laser. Thread and tweezers irritate least; wax is quick but pulls the skin; laser is permanent and leaves no room for change. At Migami in Andorra la Vella, we shape brows with thread or tweezers for €14.90.

Key points
  • Brow hairs take between 3 and 6 weeks to grow back after being removed from the root.
  • Threading and tweezing use no heat or products, so they suit sensitive skin and anyone using retinol.
  • Wax clears hair fast, but it pulls on the eyelid and can take hairs you wanted to keep.
  • Laser removes hair almost permanently, so a mistake in the shape is permanent too.
  • At Migami a brow appointment takes about 30 minutes and always starts with a brow design.

What is eyebrow hair removal and what does it do?

Eyebrow hair removal means taking out the stray hairs around the brow from the root to leave a clean, balanced shape. Done well, it opens up your eyes in 30 minutes without changing your features.

The work has two parts. First comes the shape: where the brow starts, where the arch rises and where it ends. Then comes the tool, used to remove only what sits outside that shape. Skip the first part and the method hardly matters, because the result depends on a steady hand and luck.

Eyebrow threading

Eyebrow threading uses a twisted cotton thread that glides over the skin, catches several hairs at once and lifts them out from the root. The technique is centuries old, with roots in Asia and the Middle East, and many lash and brow artists use it today for its precision.

The benefits are clear:

  • Clean lines: the thread draws straight edges and removes even the finest fuzz.
  • No heat or products: nothing hot or chemical touches your eyelid.
  • Quick: a full brow is shaped in a few minutes.

It stings a little more than tweezing on the first pass, because it takes several hairs together. The feeling lasts seconds and eases a lot from the second appointment, once the hair grows back finer.

Eyebrow tweezing

Tweezers remove hairs one at a time, which makes them the most controlled tool of all. They are used for sparse brows, for tidying around gaps without losing hair, and for the final touches after threading.

They only work with slanted tweezers in good condition. If the tip is worn, the hair snaps halfway instead of coming out with the root, and two days later a dark dot appears again. It is the slowest method, and the one least likely to remove a hair you needed.

Eyebrow waxing

Wax is spread over the area, left to set or covered with a strip, then pulled off in one go. It clears a lot of hair in very little time, which is why it is used on very full brows or between the brows.

The trouble is the area itself. Eyelid skin is among the thinnest on the body and wax pulls on it with every pass. If you use retinol creams, exfoliating acids or acne treatments, wax can lift the top layer of skin and leave redness or small wounds. Wax also takes everything it touches: if it goes one millimetre too far, those hairs are gone.

What about laser? Only if your shape is settled

Laser destroys the follicle with light and reduces hair almost permanently after several sessions. It works best on dark hair and fair skin, and it is carried out in clinics with medical-aesthetic equipment.

On brows the risk is obvious: fashionable shapes change and your face changes with age too. What laser removes does not come back. So it is kept, at most, for the area between the brows or hairs well away from the brow, and never for drawing the arch. Migami does not offer laser; it appears here only so you can compare.

The weeks are a guide: they depend on how fast your hair grows and whether you keep the shape up between appointments.

Which eyebrow hair removal method is best for you?

For most brows, threading plus tweezing gives the best result: the thread clears and sets the line, and the tweezers refine hair by hair. It is the safest choice if you have sensitive skin or use active creams.

  • If you have a lot of hair: threading to clear, tweezers to define.
  • If you have gaps or are growing your brows out: tweezers only, removing as little as possible.
  • If you want more fullness rather than less hair: brow lamination brushes the hairs upwards and fills the brow visually; see how long the result holds, usually 6 to 8 weeks.

Before removing anything, it helps to know which shape suits you. We cover that in our guide to what a brow and lash design is.

How we shape eyebrows at Migami

At Migami a brow appointment takes about 30 minutes and always follows the same order. The whole team works this way, with the method taught by Denia Lemus:

  1. Design: we mark the start, arch and end of the brow on your face to suit your features.
  2. Check with you: we show you the design before touching a single hair.
  3. Thread or tweezers: we remove everything outside the design with the technique that best suits your hair.
  4. Final pass: we even out both brows hair by hair.

Eyebrow shaping in Andorra la Vella costs €14.90. If you come back within 18 days, maintenance drops to €9.90; and if you want lashes and brows on the same day, they are booked together in the same appointment. You will find every rate on our price list.

Aftercare once your brows are shaped

For the first 24 hours the follicle is open and the skin reacts more easily. A few simple habits prevent spots and redness:

  • Skip make-up on the area and keep your hands off your brows that day.
  • Avoid saunas, swimming pools and direct sun for 24 hours.
  • Wait a couple of days before using retinol or exfoliants near the brow.
  • Leave the tweezers alone at home: let the hair grow until your next appointment to keep the shape.

What people ask us

Which hurts more, eyebrow threading or waxing?

Eyebrow threading usually hurts a little less than waxing on eyelid skin, because the thread pulls only the hair and not the skin. Waxing gives a stronger pull and can leave the area red for a while. With both, the discomfort eases from the second or third appointment.

How long does eyebrow threading last?

Eyebrow threading usually lasts between 3 and 6 weeks, because it removes the hair from the root. The exact time depends on how fast your hair grows. To keep the shape, most people come back every 3 or 4 weeks, and at Migami maintenance within 18 days costs €9.90.

Is it bad to tweeze your eyebrows?

Tweezing your eyebrows is fine if you use tweezers in good condition and know which hairs to remove. The risk is over-plucking: after years of removing too much, some follicles stop producing hair. That is why it helps to follow a design and avoid touching up in the mirror every day.

Where can I get eyebrow threading in Andorra?

Migami offers eyebrow threading and tweezing at Av. Meritxell 9 in Andorra la Vella, inside Casa Felipó, 3rd floor, door 7. We are open Monday to Saturday from 8:00 to 18:00, by appointment only. A brow appointment takes about 30 minutes and costs €14.90.

Can I get my eyebrows threaded if I use retinol?

If you use retinol, eyebrow threading or tweezing is the safer choice and waxing is best avoided. Retinol thins the top layer of skin and wax can tear it, leaving wounds or marks. Always mention your skincare before the appointment starts so we can choose the safest method.
